The Permitted Development Order allows a range of development processes to be undertaken without going through the formal planning permission channels.
Part Q of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development Order) 2015 allows owners of agricultural buildings to obtain development rights with a simplified planning process. It still requires some drawings to be approved, but is not as technical as formal planning consent. However, there are some things that are needed to be considered early on. The most important of these is whether the existing building has the capability of functioning as a dwelling. Therefore the existing building needs a good roof and wall structure.
With larger agricultural barns there is a possibility of using Part Q to gain consent for more than one property, in fact you can have up to five dwellings using Part Q allowances.
If you have a rural barn and are considering a conversion, or would like to know more about permitted development processes then get in touch with Brighton Planning and we can help.
