PROJECT: 3-BEDROOM DETACHED HOUSE, PEACEHAVEN, EAST SUSSEX

Brighton Planning were asked to look at a previously refused scheme, to extend a semi-detached property to form three terraced houses. The reasons for refusal related to the resulting bulk, massing and loss of light to a neighbouring property.

After an initial site visit, Brighton Planning suggested that the proposed house, rather than adjoining the existing buildings, should be off set with a gap of one metre between the houses to allow for more light to travel between the buildings and create a less bulky building. The style and massing of the proposed house still matched those of the existing semi-detached properties and from a distance they do have the appearance of a terrace, but the massing and overbearing nature was reduced significantly, and planning permission was gained without any neighbour objections.
