Planning permission appeal

PROJECT: DISUSED CHICKEN SHED, HIGH WEALD, EAST SUSSEX

In 2022, the owner of a farm in the High Weald, East Sussex, applied for planning permission to convert a disused chicken shed into housing. The planning authority felt that the conversion would be unsympathetic to the rural area and would not be sustainable as it was outside the planning boundary and would rely on travelling a long distance to local shops and services.

Brighton Planning have been employed to appeal that decision. As part of the appeal, we have sought to demonstrate that the barn conversion makes the most efficient use of the land, as the barn can no longer be used for modern methods of keeping livestock. Our appeal statements also seek to demonstrate that the location is not unsustainable, but in fact has a bus route within walking distance that serves the nearby towns and that the nearest facilities are within an easy cycle ride or walk.

The appeal statements also emphasize how the design of the proposed conversion has been careful to incorporate materials and palette that would comply with the High Weald Design Guide.
