Don’t go out, go up!

If you don’t have the luxury of building additional space around your house, you can now think about adding storeys without having to get formal planning consent.

If you have a detached house you can raise the roof by 7m or two storeys and if you are a single storey bungalow then you can raise to a maximum of 3.5m or a single storey.

If you are semi-detached or terraced property then you can only go up 3.5m above the highest part of your neighbour’s roof if it is lower than yours, (or the highest one in the terrace).

Of course, you will still need to get approval from the Local Planning Authority by submitting a Prior Approval application which sets out a construction management plan, the impact of your development on neighbours and your matching materials.
